How we work & FAQs
The answers, before you have to ask.
A new fitted room is a considered decision, and most people have the same questions before they commit. Here's how a Johnsons project runs from first home visit to finished room — and honest answers to what customers ask most.
Step by step
From first visit to finished room.
01
Home visit or showroom chat
Start with a no-obligation home visit or a visit to the Cold Bath Road showroom. Steve wants to understand how you use the room now, what frustrates you about it, and the look you have in mind — then gives you honest advice on what will genuinely work for your space.
02
A considered design & quotation
Steve designs the room around your requirements and his own experience, and presents it with a reasonable, clear quotation. Where units or a layout are sound, he'll recommend a refurbishment or a refresh over a full replacement — the advice customers say sets Johnsons apart.
03
Built & fitted by our own team
Once you're happy, Stuart and the team take over — building and installing your furniture cleanly and efficiently, keeping the room and the house tidy throughout. Steve project-manages it from initial concept to a completed installation you're proud of.
Common questions
Frequently asked.
What does Johnsons Interiors actually design and fit?
+
A lot more than kitchens. We design, supply and install fitted kitchens, fitted bedrooms, bathrooms, showers and wet rooms, fitted studies and home offices, dressing rooms, TV and media rooms, laundry and boot rooms, games rooms, sliding door systems and lighting solutions — plus kitchen refurbishment where a refresh makes more sense than a full replacement. It's all designed by Steve and fitted by our own team.
Do you design and fit, or just supply?
+
Both, under one roof. Steve designs your room himself and manages the project from initial concept through to completed installation, and Stuart and the team build and fit it. You deal with one independent, family-run business from the first home visit to the final walkthrough, rather than being passed between a designer, a supplier and a fitter.
Can I see things before I commit?
+
Yes. We have a showroom at 119 Cold Bath Road in Harrogate, open Monday to Saturday by appointment, where you can see furniture, sliding door finishes and options in person. Prefer to start at home? Steve offers home visits at no obligation — he'll come to you, look at the space and talk through what will work.
Will you tell me if I don't need a full replacement?
+
Honestly, yes — it's one of the things customers write about most. Where a kitchen or a room is looking tired but the units are structurally sound, Steve will recommend a refurbishment or a refresh rather than ripping everything out and starting again. Several reviews mention exactly this: called round, recommended a refurbishment, and made a really nice job of updating the room for less.
How is Johnsons different from the national chains?
+
Customers put it better than we can. Several came to us after having national companies out first and found the difference refreshing: Steve really cares about the design and the space in the room, rather than being concerned about selling more products to hit sales targets. We're independent and family-run, and have been on Cold Bath Road since 1979 — the advice comes first.
Who actually fits the work?
+
Our own team. Stuart, our lead joiner, is named in the majority of our reviews — customers describe a tremendous job, done tidily and efficiently, with the room and the whole house kept clean while he works. Mat fits kitchens alongside him. It's the same people from job to job, which is why customers say they wouldn't use anyone else.
How long does a project take?
+
It depends on the room and the scope, but customers regularly mention how prompt we are — one describes fitted wardrobes designed, quoted and expertly fitted within just a few weeks. Steve gives you a clear idea of timing when he presents the design, and the team works efficiently to it while keeping your home tidy throughout.
What are Boston Concrete and Cartesio Toucher?
+
They're two of the finishes available for our sliding door systems. Alongside mirror panels, coloured glass, painted and wood finishes and aluminium frames, finishes such as Boston Concrete and Cartesio Toucher let you match a run of wardrobe or divider doors to the look of the room. Steve will show you the options and help you choose.
Which areas do you cover?
+
We're based on Cold Bath Road in Harrogate and work across the town and the wider North Yorkshire area — Knaresborough, Ripon, Wetherby, Boston Spa, Pannal, Beckwithshaw, Killinghall, Spofforth, Follifoot, Nidderdale and the surrounding villages. If you're just outside that, ask anyway — Steve is happy to arrange a home visit and let you know.
Question not answered here?
Just ask Steve — there's no such thing as a daft question about your room, and he'd rather talk it through properly before anyone commits to anything.
